Mark Spence, Son of Lauderdale Lakes, was born and raised in Lauderdale Lakes, where he lives with his wife Latoya and children, Mya, Mark Jr., and Michael. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a Medical Service Journeyman at Wilford Hall Medical Center Surgical ICU, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Mark returned home to Lauderdale Lakes after four years of service to complete his bachelor's degree in Health Service Administration with a minor in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University.
Mark has maintained a balanced budget, low maintenance, and zero debt, serving as treasurer and currently as president of Carriage Homes at Bentley Park Homeowner's Association for the past 13 years. He has served during significant hurricanes, two recessions, and now covid pandemic. During the recession, he made cuts to spending while maintaining the upkeep of the community.
Mark Anthony Spence is the owner and director of Paradise Day Care Center and Preschool, which has served the city of Lauderdale Lakes for 25 years. Mark demonstrates his passion for children, helping to ensure the children of our community learn in a positive environment that nurtures their growth and development.
Mark serves on the church leadership board of the Ambassador Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lauderdale Lakes. He is the director of the Adventurer Club, a child scouting ministry that serves children ages 4-10 years old, building a positive character, and teaching Christian values and service through community involvement.
Mark Anthony Spence has served Lauderdale Lakes for many years. In 2004, during his studies at Florida Atlantic University, he held an internship with the Lauderdale Lakes Alzheimer Care Center, where his project included research funding for the Alzheimer Care center and supporting the daily activities of the clients at the center. He has led in community involvement, including community Thanksgiving dinners, blanket drives for people experiencing homelessness, nursing home visits, and toiletry drives for homeless veterans. He has served on the City of Lauderdale Lakes Economic and Development Board. In his service period, they completed significant projects such as a community job fair and breakfast to initiate the re-establishment of the Lauderdale Lakes Chamber of Commerce. Mark remains actively involved in the community. He represents his community at the Lauderdale property owner's meetings, commission workshops, advisory board meetings, and Homeowners Association meetings, sharing his ideas and information on improving our city and services for its residents. In 2022, Mark made history as the first resident born and raised in the City of Lauderdale Lakes to become elected as commissioner. 2023, after serving one year, he was appointed by his colleagues as Vice Mayor.
Mark is dedicated to the children, the families, and all residents of the Lauderdale Lakes. Mark’s goal for Lauderdale Lakes is to lower the tax rate and build a safer community for our families.
